45: JESUS, the Lord, our righteousness

by Count Nicolaus Ludwig von Zinzendorf (1700-1760)
tr. J. Wesley.
L.M.

sung to Walton midi score
by Ludwig Van Beethoven (1770-1827)
 (L.M.)

1 JESUS, the Lord, our righteousness!
Our beauty Thou, our glorious dress!
Midst flaming worlds in this arrayed,
With joy shall we lift up the head.

2 Bold shall we stand in that great day,
For who ought to our charge shall lay,
While by Thy blood absolved we are
From sin and guilt, from shame and fear?

3 Thus Abraham, the friend of God,
Thus all the saints redeemed with blood,
Saviour of sinners, Thee proclaim,
And all their boast is in Thy name.

4 This spotless robe the same appears
In new creation's endless years;
No age can change its glorious hue;
The robe of Christ is ever new.

5 Till we behold Thee on Thy throne,
In Thee we boast, in Thee alone,
Our beauty this, our glorious dress,
Jesus the Lord, our righteousness.
